Play it again: Clash of Clans

Read this refresher, then build, battle and win!

Supercell’s mega-hit Clash of Clans has been an App Store favourite for more than a decade. Build your village, train your Troops and fight in the Clan Wars against millions of players around the world.

If you’re looking to jump back into the chaos after not playing for a while, or want to begin your first Clash journey, the App Store Editors have a few pointers to get your Home Village up to scratch.

Expect to get pretty attached to the little hive of activity you build.

Know the basics

The key to your base building, and your main point of progression is the Town Hall. Upgrading this will unlock new buildings, Heroes and Traps for you to place in your Home Village and upgrade them as you go. The Town Hall is key in multiplayer battles: you’ll be invading your enemy’s base and their Town Hall will be the main target for your Troops’ attacks. Of course, this means you’ll need to protect your own Town Hall against incoming invaders!

Each year, a new Town Hall is released, and it will take about a year to unlock and level up all of the new features. If your Town Hall is lagging behind, don’t worry, the progression for the earlier Town Hall levels is sped up, with reduced resource costs and timers – so it won’t take you years to catch up to everyone else! Plus, if you haven’t logged in for a while, you’ll be greeted with resources (Gold, Elixir and Dark Elixir if you’ve unlocked it) to help with upgrading every part of the village.

Ready your troops to take on the opposition – they don’t call it Preparation Day for nothing!

New content every month

The world of Clash of Clans is always evolving. We love jumping back in to see the new monthly seasons that bring new updates, customisations and exciting limited-time events. The best part is that you never know what to expect.

You might find a game-changing new feature, Temporary Troops to use in a new battle mode, new cosmetic skins for your Heroes, scenery decorations or festive events for Halloween and Christmas. There’s always something new to explore, no matter how long you’ve been playing.

Become the best Chief around

Once you’ve gotten used to the basics, levelled up some Troops, your Town Hall and everything in between, you can start thinking about taking on some serious competition.

First you’ll want to join a clan (or create your own) and jump into some community tournaments. There’s also specific competitions for lower-level Town Halls, so you can get started even if you don’t have everything maxed out.

The Clash of Clans World Championships is the official esports programme, and you can compete in the qualifiers in-game throughout the year. This level of play can lead to real-life trophies and epic showdowns in a real-life esports arena.

Our biggest tip is to keep an eye on the Clash of Clans esports scene and watch other Clash legends play. With so many Troops, Traps and Heroes available, you can learn from the Champions – especially when the evolving nature of the game leads to new cutting-edge strategies.
